Lost and Found

In 2020, a watercolor painting was found in Hotline Pink Thrift Shop, North Carolina and was eventually attributed as Purgatory Canto 32 (ca. 1950) by Dali. The piece bears his signature and was part of a series on The Divine Comedy, commissioned by the Italian government to commemorate the anniversary birthday of Dante. The painting has since been sold to a couple with the proceeds donated to a nonprofit organization.

IThis recently-discovered Dali painting is signed “Gala Wilfredo Lam,” which was the artist’s way of paying homage to his wife. The painting was exhibited for the first time at Heather James Fine Art New York in 2018.
